Back to our home from a wonderful vacation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! After a week of absence, the garden grew tremendously. We will have tomatoes for the next few months, I think. The cucumbers that were non-existent last week are ready to pick, pumpkins have started, and I can't tell if we have any squash going yet. The beans have finally started to flower after three months!!
I also found out that bamboo might not be the best option for a trellis system for my tomatoes. I found one collapsed (which was broken when I put it up, so we'll take that into account...). I managed to strengthen it by adding a few cross pieces in, but it needs to be replaced. Then I found a tomato plant really slacked on it line, so I tightened it up and promptly broke another one. I thought about replacing it with PVC, but realized 2x4's were cheaper.
I managed to get the new trellis up and all the lines for the tomatoes replaced about 15 minutes before the rains came in :) It's not the best build, but it is definitely better than the bamboo was, and it will hold up better.
Now to plan for some sourdough baking!
Tony
